Nottinghamshire's Second XI impressed with the bat in the second day of their Second Eleven Championship match against Yorkshire.

Resuming on 85-3 off 26, Will Root and Adam Tillcock reached their fifty partnership in the 36th over with the score on 104 but two overs later Root was caught at second slip by Jack Leaning off Richard Pyrah. Matt Cross joined Tillcock and they put on just 17 runs in the next 19 overs before Cross (12) edged a catch to keeper Dan Hodgson off Ben Coad in the 57th over. Ajmal Shahzad (8) was next in but in the 60th over was caught on the leg side boundary by Coad off Azeem Rafiq (134-6) and Brett Hutton made his way to the middle. At lunch the home side had made 147-6, Adam Tillcock unbeaten on 32 and Hutton on four.

After the break Tillcock reached his fifty in the 75th over and Nottinghamshire’s 200 followed shortly afterwards.

In the 82nd the pair reached their 100 partnership (235-6), Tillcock on 81 and Hutton 36. The new ball was taken next over and the pair set a new record 7th wicket partnership against Yorkshire (previously 114) as they pressed on. In the 87th over Adam Tillcock reached his century (194 balls, 2 sixes, 12 fours) with a straight four, taking the score to 262 and Brett Hutton passed 50 with a square cut for four in the 89th over (279-6). The visitors juggled their bowling attack but the batsmen looked untroubled until Tillcock (115) was adjudged lbw off Josh Shaw in the 93rd over to end a partnership of 164. Simon Webster went in the same over, without scoring, to a catch by Rafiq in the slips and Paul Franks joined Hutton in the middle at 298-8. At tea the score was 315-8, Hutton on 74 and Franks 7.

In the evening session’s second over, Brett Hutton (75) was caught behind off Richard Pyrah (324-9) and Luke Wood joined Franks. They took the lead past the one hundred mark in the 104th over and the innings ended in the 107th, Franks (36) caught off Jack Leaning leaving Luke Wood unbeaten on 31, the final score 376, a first innings lead of 121.

The Yorkshire reply came from Eliot Kallis and Jonathan Tattersall with 21 overs remaining in the day. In the 5th over Tattersall (3) edged to Brett Hutton at first slip off Ajmal Shahzad, the score 29-1 and Dan Hodgson was trapped lbw by Luke Wood for 2 (50-2). Jack Leaning joined Kallis at the crease, but in the 13th over Paul Franks bowled the latter for 32 to leave the visitors on 50-3. Will Rhodes entered the fray with 7 overs still remaining but they negotiated them without further loss, the score at the close 63-3, Leaning on 6 and Rhodes on 3, still 58 behind.
